We are often asked about tiles in living rooms, as choosing them is a less familiar process than finding tiles for your kitchen or bathroom. So, we’re here to help you through your decision making process and offer some inspiration.

HOW TO DECORATE YOUR LIVING ROOM WITH TILE FLOORS

The best place to start is with living room floor tiles. A favourite option for a lounge is to opt for wood effect luxury vinyl 或者 porcelain tiles, many of which combine a gorgeous wood effect look with high-quality, durable material. They give rooms a warm, natural feel to suit any cosy lounging aesthetic.

Take a look at our Adalene Mocha tile. We‘ve paired it with dark grey wall panelling and added a comfy grey sofa that embodies a look of cosy relaxation. We then added a glass coffee table to show off the flooring even more, alongside darker furniture and light fittings that contrast with the room’s lighter surfaces.

Although the colour scheme is mainly light and warm tones, adding hints of matt grey really grounds the overall finish and ties the look together perfectly. Finally, to build upon that cosy natural element of the design, we added a couple of small house plants to the coffee table and hallway. All that’s left to do is grab a cup of tea and settle down on the sofa.

WHAT MATERIAL TO USE FOR LIVING ROOM FLOOR TILES

When redecorating a larger area it’s much more cost-effective to choose a pricier but durable floor material as it will last longer. For example, a tiled living room floor as opposed to something like laminate which will damage much quicker than its porcelain equivalent. Many different materials can be used for living room floor tiles, and each has different properties.

Porcelain tiles are far more durable than laminate flooring, which is more susceptible to damage and will eventually need replacing. Our wood effect tiles are created using innovative technology ensuring both the look and feel of the grain are realistic. Below you can see how our Kanzi wood effect tiles can be paired with wooden furniture and earthy tones for a comfortable, natural-looking lounge. It’s better to invest in your flooring as it will last longer and wear better than cheaper alternatives.

Guaranteed to create an elegant finish, parquet flooring is very much in vogue again. This type of flooring often looks at its best if it’s allowed to flow seamlessly throughout your downstairs. It creates a grand look that optimises your space whilst giving the illusion of a bigger area. The Adalene Mocha tile that we’ve shown you already demonstrates this perfectly, keeping the pattern flowing right through into the hallway adds cohesion to your design.

Another option to consider is natural stone tiling as it adds a rustic vibe to your living space. However, natural stone is quite expensive for a larger area like a lounge and will need maintaining. So, the best work around is a porcelain stone effect tile. You can see here how we’ve paired the light grey Lakestone tile with a dark green chair and black shelves for a contrasting play of light and dark tones in a modern yet comfortable reading corner. It feels homely without being too rustic.

LIVING ROOM WALL TILE IDEAS

Living room wall tiles can influence the dynamic of a lounge in many different ways, even if they’re only added to a single wall or section of the room. A common approach in a lounge is to use tiles on a feature wall around a hearth or other point of interest.

Here, we’ve used the Minton Hollins Seaweed decorative tile to provide a beautiful backdrop to a white marble countertop and paired it with colourful flowers that follow the same theme. You don’t need to decorate a whole room with these tiles to enjoy their full potential – their impact is actually maximised in smaller areas so that they stand out from the rest of the décor.

Want something more minimal and rustic? Try a brick effect tile. Either in a light white or a genuine brick tone, it’s a great way to add texture and build on a cosy atmosphere in your living room whilst providing impact. It’s also a very versatile option as it will complement a monochrome colour scheme or fit in with a bright and bold palette too.

We’ve paired the Hartley Old Red tile with a gorgeous black wood-burning stove and an otherwise neutral palette to draw the eye to this part of the living room. Alongside a wooden beam above the fireplace and wood store to the left, the brick effect tiles give the impression of exposed walls in a country home.
